MetaScape ("MetaScape", "we") is operated by Dexter Price in South Carolina, United States. This page says what the site at metascape.world collects and what it does with it. To ask about any of it, use the contact page.
You can walk in without an account
There is no registration form. Entering the world anonymously is a normal choice. When you first visit, your browser makes a random secret key (a "deed") and keeps it in your browser's local storage. It is what proves a home or a signature in the world is yours. We store only a hashed form of it on our servers.
What we collect
- Your look and name. The character you build and the display name you choose are kept in your browser and shared with other visitors in the same place while you are there.
- Sign-in details (optional). If you connect Metrix, Google, Apple or Discord, we receive from that provider an account ID, a username, and (for Metrix, Google and Apple) your email address and avatar image where the provider gives them. We store these with your deed so your home and look follow you to another device. We do not receive your password. Which sign-in options are available can change.
- Wallet address (optional). If you link an Ethereum wallet, you sign a message to prove ownership and we store the address. Nothing happens on-chain and we never ask for your keys.
- Things you create. Home details and decoration, wall signatures (a name, a country, a short line, and optionally a short video hello), stage bookings and slides, land and alliance records, and mailbox messages or attachments you send to a house. Mailbox items and uploaded files are stored on our servers so the recipient can open them later.
- Your photo, if you use the likeness studio. A photo you add to build a 3D likeness stays on your device unless you agree to send it. If you agree, it is sent to image and 3D generation services (Google, Higgsfield and Meshy) to produce your avatar, and the resulting likeness is stored against your deed.
- Anonymous usage events. The site records small events such as entering a room, using a portal, or an error, tagged with a random per-tab session ID, a coarse device class, the region and the room. They carry no name, wallet or deed. IP addresses are used only in hashed form for rate limiting.
- Local storage. Your deed, look, name, language, microphone preference and similar settings are kept in your browser's local or session storage. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics trackers.
Chat and voice
Text chat and proximity voice are delivered live to people within about 16 metres of you in the world. Voice audio is relayed to nearby players and is not stored or decoded on our servers. Your microphone is only used after you turn it on and your browser grants permission.
AI shopkeepers and business reps
If you talk to an AI shopkeeper or a business's AI rep, the text you type is sent to the AI provider that powers it (Anthropic for shopkeepers, or the business's own Automated Worx workspace for reps) in order to produce a reply. Do not type anything sensitive. A business may keep transcripts in its own workspace.
Businesses in the Market
The Market lists storefronts supplied by Metrix (metrix.build). Business names, logos and photos come from that feed. We read the feed on our servers; your browser does not contact Metrix for it. Links to a business's own site leave MetaScape and are covered by that site's policies.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your data. We use service providers to run the site: Vercel (website hosting), Railway (the live-presence server), a hosted database, and the sign-in and AI providers named above, each only for the feature that needs them. We may disclose information if the law requires it.
Your choices
- Clear your browser's site data to remove your deed, look and settings from your device. Note that this also removes your way back to a home that has no linked sign-in.
- You can disconnect a linked sign-in from the front page.
- To ask us to see or delete data tied to you, use the contact page.
Children
MetaScape is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
